Leigh Primary School

Sports Premium

SportWe believe that P.E. is an integral part of the curriculum,   allowing children to experience various sporting activities and competing at different levels and abilities both in and outside school. All pupils have at least two hours plus P.E.   per week. We encourage all children to participate in all lessons and events and offer a varied range of activities to suit all abilities. Leigh Primary School offers a large number of after-school sporting activities which are open to all children and our sports teams have had success at a local and county level - just look at our trophy cabinet in the reception area!

Early Years

PE is a very important part of children's all-round learning, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy and active lives. Our EYFS provision provides opportunities for all children to develop their fine and gross motor skills through a range of experiences. These experiences develop their strength, balance, agility, co-ordination and positional awareness through indoor and outdoor planned activities. At Leigh we recognise how gross motor skills contribute to the development of healthy bodies and contribute to the social and emotional well-being of our students. With regard to fine motor skills, we provide a wealth of opportunities to ensure that children develop their hand-eye co-ordination which is required for progress with confidence and control in their early literacy.

KS1

SportWe encourage and motivate all children to participate during the sessions and we offer a broad curriculum to enable all children to feel motivated and comfortable in all areas of P.E. These including dance, gymnastics, ball skills and a continuation focus on coordination and teamwork. Interhouse tournaments, Sport's Day and lessons provide opportunities to compete. All pupils are assessed regularly and in KS2 competition opportunities outside school are available in a range of sports.

KS2

SportKS2 pupils follow an annual cycle which ensures they engages in a range of physical activities including dance or gymnastics,  field sports or swimming. Swimming is taught to pupils in KS2 and children receive swimming awards depending on their progress during these lessons.

KS2 pupils have wider opportunities to attend competitive events and tournaments outside school. The school has a very good relationship with the Sevenoaks Schools Partnership, who provide us with an events calendar and competitions.

Sports Premium Grant

Every year we receive a PE and Sports Grant to fund improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of pupils aged 5-11 years old, so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles. A thorough review is conducted of our Sports Premium funding twice a year. This enables us to review the expenditure, its impact and ensure sustainable improvement. We are committed to ensuring that this money is spent effectively and its impact measured.  We also had a thorough review of our three year spending in February 2019 and we have used the recommendations of this report to slightly restructure our spending.
